Paxton Park golf course is a gently rolling golf course with the ultimate in high quality greens--Champion ultradwarf bermuda. While Champion has only been on the market since 1996, it is rapidly becoming the buzz in bermuda circles and is even replacing bentgrass in the South on many courses that desire bentgrass quality putting surfaces and bermuda heat tolerance. The ball rolls true and fast on Champion, just like excellent bentgrass greens. Tee boxes are zoysia and bermuda. Fairways are bermudagrass.
Paxton Park golf course has a number of large mature trees and several creeks winding through the course.
Paxton Park golf course hosts two large regional events each year featuring professionals and amateurs alike. The Pepsi Super Valu Irvin Cobb Golf Championship is held here each year in July and is considered the top local golf tournament in the four state regional area. The Texas Roadhouse Hughes Funeral Home Tri-States Senior Open is held here each year in September and is considered one of the premier senior golf events in ther area. The Banterra Bank Greater Paducah Area Amateur Golf Championships is held in August each year.

For my level of play which is mid 80 's range I find this course to be somewhat challenging with the many doglegs and blind fairways. There are alot of sand traps, but you dont want in them , its like hitting out of wet cement. The greens are particularly fast which I like, and they have pretty challenging par 3's. Most are at least 170 yards which serves well with a 5 wood off the Blue Tee. Cleanliness of course is always good. But it would be nice if they offered more water jugs on the course to refresh yourself with. Overall I like the course and play it frequently as a local to the area. Although I dont mind travelling to play golf this one suits me fine.
